Cakirkaya Monastery

The Çakırkaya Monastery, located in the Kozağaç area of Çakırkaya Village in the Şiran District, was built by carving a rock mass that is 65 m above the ground with very careful workmanship. The church, chapel, a few small spaces in the rocks and service rooms arranged in equal dimensions at the foundation level on the south side have survived from the monastery to the present day. The church, which can be reached by climbing rock steps on the south side, is arranged in a rectangular space of 14.96 x 7.18 m. in a three-nave domed basilica plan. The interior is divided into three naves by two support rows connected by round arches. The naves are covered with five-part vaults extending in the east-west direction, and a dome shaped by carving is placed on the naosan.
